Ambulance

How Does MASA Work?

  1. Call 911

When faced with an emergency, don’t think twice about calling 911 for help. Call 911 and get the help you need right away. You do not need to contact MASA or AMBA in a medical emergency.

  2. Take Advantage of Your Benefits

Your MASA membership includes more than just ambulance and air ambulance protection. It also covers services like hospital private room upgrades, vehicle return, and more, giving you added protection and peace of mind during your recovery.

  3. Send Your Medical Transportation Bills to MASA

After your emergency, submit your ambulance bills to MASA, who will confirm your primary health insurance has processed your claim. Then, MASA will work with the ambulance providers to resolve your transport bill and other costs included in your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do MASA membership benefits apply to emergencies at home?

Yes! Medical Access & Service Advantage (MASA®) core protections from out-of-pocket costs for emergency ground or air transportation apply nationwide and in Canada, including transfers to hospitals with greater levels of care when required by your physician.

Do I call MASA for my emergency?

No. In the event of an emergency, call 911 and get yourself or your loved one the care you need. Later, when you receive a bill from the ambulance company, simply send it to MASA.

How do MASA membership benefits work when I’m away from home?

Your core membership benefits for emergency ground or air transportation are applicable in the United States and Canada. Additional support can be arranged if you experience an emergency that requires hospitalization more than 100 miles from home. This may include transporting a visitor to be with you in the hospital, or transporting you, your pets, minor children or grandchildren, and RVs or vehicles back home. Coordination between your physician and MASA may be necessary to activate some of these benefits.

When should I call MASA?

You should call MASA if you’re hospitalized more than 100 miles away from home, are in stable condition, and need:

  • A family member or friend by your side.
  • To recuperate in a hospital near your home.
  • To be returned home after an emergency while away from home.
  • A pet, vehicle, RV, or motorcycle returned home.
  • To get your children or grandchildren home.

To request financial support for your emergency ambulance bill, simply upload it [in/via] your MASA member portal at www.masaaccess.com/member or email it to ambulanceclaims@masaglobal.com. Be sure to complete this no later than 180 days from the transport.

Who decides if I can recover at a hospital near my home?

Your attending physician and MASA’s medical director determine when and where you will be transferred to a hospital closer to home. The MASA team will coordinate the transportation.

What happens if I pass away while away from home?

MASA will coordinate and pay for the return of your remains home. For this benefit, MASA will assist the member or member representative through the process and reimburse the flight expense.

How soon can I use my MASA membership?

Your membership protections are immediately available once MASA has received your application.

Do my MASA membership benefits work outside of the U.S.?

MASA core protections from out-of-pocket costs for emergency ground or air transportation apply in the U.S. and Canada. Some protections are available only in the United States, while most extend to Mexico and the Caribbean (excluding Cuba) or worldwide. Worldwide locations include any region except Antarctica and those prohibited by U.S. law or under U.S. travel advisories. Please check your membership documents to confirm support areas.

If you plan to visit worldwide locations, you must provide MASA with your itinerary 10 days before your trip to adjust your global emergency medical transportation coverage area. You can submit your itinerary through your member portal or by email to travel@masaglobal.com.

Protection That Goes With You

If you’re always on the move, MASA has your back. Medical emergencies can happen anywhere, and the cost of ambulance or air ambulance services can be especially high when you are away from home. With a MASA membership, these expenses are taken care of, so you can move forward with confidence, knowing you’re protected wherever life takes you.
